Suspended IAS officer to be chargesheeted

Despite mounting criticism, the UP government will serve a chargesheet to suspended IAS officer Durga Shakti Nagpal, asking her to explain her actions.
Senior UP minister Shivpal Singh Yadav categorically denied that the suspension of the officer would be revoked.
The Central IAS Association, meanwhile, has sent a one line message to UP chief secretary, urging the state government to revoke the suspension of Durga Shakti Nagpal in order to “maintain the morale of honest officers.” IAS officers in Delhi will be meeting the officials in the department of personnel and training on Thursday.
The UP IAS Association has already met the chief secretary to demand revocation of her suspension.
Mr Shivpal Singh Yadav said that Ms Nagpal had been suspended for demolishing the wall of a mosque which could have sparked off communal tension and she would have to face inquiry. “Any officer who over steps his limit will face similar action,” he said.
A government spokesperson, on the other hand, said on Wednesday that the process of serving the charge sheet was as per the law.
“It is only after the charge sheet it served that Durga Shakti Nagpal can give her official explanation and any further action can be done on the basis of her reply,” the spokesperson said.
Sources said that the charge sheet against the officer will mention the demolition of the wall of a mosque in a village in Greater Noida that fuelled the possibility of communal violence.
Durga Shakti Nagpal, a 2009 batch IAS officer, had ordered a crackdown on illegal sand mining rampant on Yamuna and Hindon river beds but she was suspended for ordering demolition of the wall of a mosque, built on government land.
The Akhilesh Yadav government has been facing criticism from the opposition, bureaucrats and IAS officers for the suspension of the officer. Meanwhile, Durga Shakti Nagpal has reported to the Board of Revenue and will remain attached to it during her suspension period.
