Sword hangs over several heavyweights facing cases
RJD supremo Lalu Prasad Yadav and Congress MP Rasheed Masood may have been the first to be struck by the Supreme Court’s order disqualifying convicted lawmakers. But that is not the end of the story. A sword now hangs over several prominent leaders whose conviction — should it happen — may alter the course of the country’s political history.
Mulayam Singh Yadav (SP), Mayawati (BSP), Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy (YSRC), A. Raja (DMK), Kanimozhi (DMK), B.S. Yeddyurappa (KJP), J. Jayalalithaa (AIADMK), Amit Shah (BJP) and Suresh Kalmadi (Congress) are among those under the scanner.
The SP is unhappy over withdrawal of the ordinance as it is scared over how the disproportionate assets case involving Mulayam Singh Yadav may turn out. Though the CBI decided to file a closure report, the Supreme Court is yet to take a view. The DMK is worried that Kanimozhi’s conviction might spell an early end to her political career.
