T report: What are the options?
Following is an edit of the 461-page Justice Srikrishna Committee report that could just decide the fate of Andhra Pradesh.
The five-member panel has come out with six options.
First option
Maintain status quo.
Committee's view: Not practical.
---------------------
Second option
Divide state into Seemandhra and Telangana, Hyderabad as Union Territory and the two states developing their own capitals.
Committee's view: Prospect of violence, not practicable
------------------
Third option
Divide state into Rayala-Telangana and Coastal Andhra, with Hyderabad being an integral part of Rayala-Telangana.
Committee's view: Not acceptable to all three regions
----------------
Fourth option
Divide AP into Seemandhra and Telangana, with enlarged Hyderabad Metropolis as a separate Union Territory.
Committee's view: Stiff opposition from T-protagonists, political consensus difficult.
-----------------
Fifth option
Divide AP into Telangana and Seemandhra as per existing boundaries with Hyderabad as the capital of Telangana and Seemandhra to have a new capital.
Committee's view: Will satisfy Telangana, but will also throw up serious problems: Second best option
------
Sixth option
United AP, provide definite constitutional/statuary measures for Telangana.
Committee's view: Could provide satisfaction to the maximum number of people. Best option
