Taiwanese tourists are stable
The two Taiwanese nationals, who were shot at during the Jam Masjid attack, were immediately rushed to the Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Narayan Hospital where both were provided immediate medical attention.
Doctors at the hospital stated that the situation of Ko Chang, 27, who had suffered bullet injuries in his abdomen, was still critical but stable. While Ku Ze Wei, 25, who had suffered bullet injury as it grazed past his head, has recovered but has been kept under observation. The two were brought to the hospital immediately by their bus driver.
The doctors rushed them immediately to the ICU. “A team of 15 doctors started operating Chang at around 12 noon and the operation lasted for over four and a half hours,” medical superintendent Amit Bannerjee said.
“We took out one bullet from Chang’s stomach and inspected his intestines for any other injury. Several injuries were found and we operated upon those as well. He is critical, but stable and has been shifted to the ICU,” Dr Bannerjee said. The victim has also suffered a severe blood loss and has been given several units of blood, he added.
Sources at the hospital stated that the hospital doctors had consulted experts from AIIMS and other hospitals while operating Chang. Hospital sources stated that a bullet of .9 mm pistol has been removed from the abdomen of Chang and has been handed over to the forensic lab for further investigations.
While speaking about Ze Wei’s injuries, Dr Bannerjee said, “A bullet grazed past the back of his head but deflected and did not enter the head. If the bullet had entered the skull the matter would have turned critical,” he further said.
Among those who visited the victims at the hospital were Union home minister P. Chidambaram and chief minister Sheila Dikshit.
