Taj mahal foundations rechecked
A Survey of India team on Friday began checking the foundations of the Taj Mahal following a directive from the Supreme Court.
This directive came after media reports quoted Agra’s BJP Lok Sabha MP Ram Shankar Katheria and a local writer on historical monuments, Ram Nath, as saying the foundations of the 17th-century monument of love had become weak due to the low water levels in the Yamuna, which flows just north of the monument.
The reports claimed the minarets on the Taj’s four corners had bent further from the markings placed by the Survey of India in 1940.
Following this, the Archaeological Survey of India asked four premier agencies in the country to recheck the stability of the monument. — PTI
