Taj scare: Firm claims it had ASI permission to fly over monument

A private firm, whose helicopter made four unannounced sorties over Taj Mahal on December 14 sending security officials into tizzy, has claimed that it had taken permission from Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) Headquarters at Delhi in this regard, police said on Sunday.

The personnel of the firm were onboard the helicopter to take footage of the 17th century monument for a promotional campaign, they said.

However, the local ASI office had registered a police case for security breach after its officials and CISF security personnel deployed to guard the heritage monument spotted the helicopter.

DIG Assem Arun said that there appeared to be a lack of coordination over the issue as the local officials of the ASI were unaware of any permission having been given to the firm.
