Tamil actor-director Manivannan passes away
Bengaluru: Tamil actor-director Manivannan passed away in Chennai following a cardiac arrest on Saturday. He was 59.
With over 400 films as an actor and nearly 50 films as director, Manivannan was one of the most experienced personalities in Kollywood. He has also ventured into Telugu, Malayalam and Hindi film industries as well with a few movies.
Manivannan's last film as an actor and director was the Satyaraj-starrer Nagaraja Cholan MA, MLA, which released on May 10, 2013.
Known for his comic and character roles, he had acted alongside many stars including Rajinikanth, Kamal Haasan and the young stars of current lot.
Noted personalities from the industry took it to Twitter to pay their respects to Manivannan after the news of his demise spread.
"RIP Manivannan sir..my husband's guru..learnt the finer nuances of being a producers director from him..great soul..we will miss u Sir..," tweeted Khushbu, whose husband Sundar C. was an assistant to Manivannan.
Actor Siddharth posted: "The great Manivannan sir is no more. Many lives in cinema are what they are today because of him. Writer, director, actor…gone too soon. RIP".
Actor Priyamani tweeted: "Can't believe manivannan sir is no more!!haven't had the opportunity to work with him but what a versatile actor/director!RIP sir!"
