Tata to challenge Bill scrapping Singur deal
The Bill scrapping the previous Left Front government's deal with Tata Motors to return land to ‘unwilling’ farmers in Singur will be challenged by the company in court.
"We will move court tomorrow (Wednesday)," Barrister S Pal, who is representing Tata Motors, told the media here.
Asked which part of the Singur Land Rehabilitation and Development Bill, 2011, would they will be challenging, he said, "We are challenging the whole act".
The Bill was passed in the state Assembly on June 14, amid a walkout by the Opposition Left parties, by voice vote along with some amendments brought by the government.
It had also received Governor M K Narayanan's assent on Monday.
Meanwhile, the Hooghly district administration on Tuesday pasted a notice on the walls of the Tata Motors abandoned project site at Singur with a copy of the gazette notification of the scrapping of the land deal with the government.
The notice signed by District Magistrate Sripriya Rangarajan instructed the company to vacate the site. Later in the evening, sub-divisional officer (SDO) Abhijit Mitra visited the site along with police officers.
