Tata Nano catches eye of Obamas
President Barack Obama, who heads the world’s richest economy, on Sunday checked out the world’s cheapest car — Nano. No sooner the powerful US couple was introduced to Mr Ratan Tata, who heads the $72-billion conglomerate, President Obama told First Lady Michelle that this is the person who created the $2,500 wonder car. Eyewitnesses said that Michelle immediately expressed the desire to see the car that revolutionised the auto industry and put India prominently on the global map.
After the discussion last evening, Mr Tata immediately organised a gleaming Nano along with a chauffeur, right at the porch of luxurious Taj Mahal Palace Hotel in front of Gateway of India, where Mr Obama and entourage were camping since Saturday.
The couple stepped out in the morning to have a good look at the car, with Michelle even sitting in the small Nano and admiring the engineering marvel.

Report on gunshot at Taj sought
Mumbai, Nov. 7: The Mumbai police commissioner on Sunday sought a report on the accidental firing that occurred outside Taj Hotel where US President Barack Obama was staying during his visit to the city on Saturday night, the police said.
Assistant police inspector Suhas Choudhary, attached with the Crime Branch, accidentally pulled the trigger of his service weapon and injured himself outside the iconic Taj hotel where he was deployed on Saturday.
Asked if he had sought any report on the firing incident, city police chief Sanjeev Dayal said, “It is routine paper work.”
Police sources said the commissioner has asked Colaba police station, in whose jurisdiction the incident took place, to file a report. Mr Dayal said the incident took place beyond the outer security perimeter of the hotel. —PTI
