Tatkal tickets holders must carry an ID
With touts and other unscrupulous elements still trying to misuse the railway reservation system for booking tickets under the “Tatkal” scheme, the railway ministry has decided to reintroduce the need to carry identity proof in original for those booking tickets under Tatkal.
Those not carrying identity proof and travelling on a “Tatkal” ticket will find themselves charged with ticketless travel. The provision seeking the carrying of I-cards will come into effect from February 11.
A passenger or one among a group of passengers travelling on a Tatkal ticket will be required to produce one of the following eight identity proofs in original during the journey: voter photo identity card issued by the Election Commission, passport, Pan card, driving licence, photo I-card issued by the Central or state government, student I-card with photograph among others.

‘Will insist on BlackBerry service access’
age correspondent
New Delhi
Jan. 31: The Centre on Monday said that it will “insist’’ on getting access to the BlackBerry Enterprise Services (BES) for monitoring by law enforcement agencies. Incidentally, the deadline for Research-in-Motion (RIM), the Canadian manufacturer of the smart phones, to come out with a solution ends on Monday.
Noting that a decision would be taken soon on whether to allow the BlackBerry Enterprise Mail or not, home minister P. Chidambaram said he expected that RIM would be able to find some solution. “I think a decision will be taken today by the ministry of home affairs and the telecom ministry. I am not yet been briefed on the development. As I said, like they have given us a solution to the Messenger service, we will insist that they give us the solution for the enterprise service too,” Mr Chidambaram said.
