Tatra case: CBI seeks details of retired officer

The CBI, probing alleged bribery-offer to Army Chief General V.K. Singh, has sought all details about the retired Army officer, who is under the scanner of the agency, from the ministry of defence (MoD). The details which have been sought about the retired Army officer, who allegedly made a bribe-offer to the Army Chief, include files which he handled, meetings chaired by him and list of people who frequently met him during his service tenure.
Sources said the CBI, which is preparing to record the statement of the retired officer by the end of this week, has also sought visitors registers of his office when he was serving in the Indian Army. Scrutiny of the visitors registers of the retired officer will help in establishing the identity of the persons who frequently met him, sources added. The agency officials are also probing links, if any, between the retired army officer with the Vectra group chairman Ravi Rishi.
To prove the bribery offer as alleged by the Army Chief, the CBI officials will have to first establish the links between Rishi and the retired Army officer, sources clarified. “Scrutiny of the files which he handled will also help in establishing his alleged links with Vectra group. This is the reason that the agency has sought details of the files and minutes of the meetings which he chaired when he was serving in the Indian Army from the MoD”, sources said.
The CBI on Tuesday also questioned two senior executives of the Vectra Group in connection with its probe related to alleged irregularities in the procurement of around 6,000 all-terrain Tatra Vehicles by the Indian Army. Chief Financial Officer of Vectra Investments, Vikram Kakariya and another senior executive Anil Mansaramani were grilled at length by CBI sleuths at the agency headquarters here on Tuesday.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
