Tatra seeks permission to sue general
Chief of the Army Staff Gen. V.K. Singh is set to face fresh trouble with the firm which manufactures Tatra trucks moving the ministry of defence for permission to prosecute him for defamatory remarks of bribery and corruption.
The letter to Mr Shashi Kant Sharma, secretary, MoD, a copy of which was released to this newspaper, written by Ms Elena Ustynovich, director, Tatra Sipox (UK) Ltd, says the general’s “false and unfounded allegations” during recent interviews to the media have harmed the reputation of the firm.
“We are aggrieved by the nature of false and unfounded allegations and the grave harm it causes to our reputation. As is evident from the record, Tatra only supplies trucks to Bharat Earth Movers Ltd (BEML) under license and hence Tatra has no reason or occasion to have to approach General V K Singh. This being the position, there is no manner of doubt that the false and unfounded allegations made by General Singh have harmed and lowered our reputation not only in the eyes of right-thinking citizens of this country, our customers and clientele base both in India as well as 38 other countries whose defence needs are served by Tatra. Undoubtedly, such false and unfounded allegations have and will continue to adversely affect Tatra’s reputation as well as its present and future commercial prospects,” states the letter.
