Teacher canes girl in playschool
In another shocking incident of brutality by teachers, a three-and-a-half-year-old enrolled in a playschool was allegedly caned by her teacher at Peelamedu here on Tuesday. The girl was taken to a private hospital for treatment in the evening, the police said.
Srinithi, daughter of S.K. Prakash Rao and Jothilakshmi, a resident of Peelamedu, was a pre-KG student at the Infant Jesus playschool near her residence on Mariamman Koil street, Peelamedu. The school was functioning from a rented building with about 45 students, that, too, from a single room.
On Tuesday evening, returning home from school, Srinithi started to cry when her mother changed her dress. The child told her worried mother that she was caned by her teacher Dhanam as she did not do her writing assignment at school, the police said.
“She was caned on her hands and back and there were marks on her body. When we went to the
school to question them, there was no one there. We did not have even the phone number of the teacher,” Mr Prakash told Deccan Chronicle.
As she was crying of pain, the parents took her to a private hospital for treatment. Mr Prakash said he was shocked that their daughter suffered so much pain that, too, at the pre-KG level.
Based on a complaint from the father, the Peelamedu police have registered a case and are investing.
Chief education officer (CEO) T. Rajendiran said “We will conduct an enquiry to find out the truth and take action.”
