Teacher held for abusing students
Police on Tuesday arrested P.V. Abdul Rahman, an Arabic teacher of the Iqra English Medium School, for sexually abusing a host of girl students from first standard to seventh standard.
This is the second child abuse case involving teachers reported from the district within a week.
Abdul Rahman was arrested following complaints from parents and Childline workers.
When parents aired suspicion that children were being abused, authorities of the school located at Cheriyaparappoor in Tirur intimated Childline workers who exposed the case after proper counselling of students and parents, it is learned.
“We had a thorough counselling session after which students revealed the ordeal which they underwent,” said Mr Muhammed Salli, district coordinator of Childline. “We identified about 25 children who were sexually exploited by the teacher.”
He added that Childline service was getting more calls recently relating to child abuse. “More and more teachers, students and parents are ready to report on such incidents now,” he said.
Another complaint had been lodged against the teacher earlier in connection with another incident, it was pointed out. Few days back, a teacher of Government UP School at Neduva in the district was arrested in connection with sexual exploitation of about 40 students.
The teacher, who is currently in police custody, would be produced in court on Wednesday, police said.
