Techie forges PM’s sign, held
The CBI has arrested a B.Tech student from the city on Wednesday for allegedly forging the signature of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to secure a PG seat in Lucknow University.
The accused identified as Farhan Akhtar will be produced before the Nampally court on Thursday by the CBI for securing a prisoner transit warrant for shifting him to New Delhi.
The CBI said that Akhtar had applied for an MS seat in Lucknow University and had attached a forged letter of recommendation from the Prime Minister.
The Lucknow University authorities gave him the seat and wrote to the Prime Minister’s Office stating that they had acted as per the recommendation of the Prime Minister.
Seeing the letter sent by the university the Prime Minister’s Office wrote back to the University that they had never recommended any student.
After the enquiry the Lucknow University sent back the details to the Prime Minister’s Office. Based on a complaint by officials of the Prime Minister’s Office, the CBI launched an investigation.
On Wednesday a CBI team came to Hyderabad and arrested Farhan Akhtar. As it was late in the evening they were asked to produce against the accused on Thursday.
The CBI said that Akhtar had forged the letterhead of the Prime Minister’s Office for sending the letter of recommendation.
PMO was also prepared by the accused.
