Teen stabs teacher to death in Chennai class
A Class 9 student stabbed his Hindi teacher to death while she was preparing for class Thursday morning at St. Mary’s Anglo-Indian Higher Secondary School here. The 14-year-old boy said he was inspired by a stab scene in the Hindi film Agneepath, the police said.
Uma Maheswari, 39, was waiting in her classroom for the students to arrive around 11 am when the boy rushed in and stabbed her several times. Stunned by the sudden attack and screaming in pain, the teacher fell from her chair onto the floor.
A group of students who came in found her lying unconscious in a pool of blood.
She was rushed to a nearby government hospital, but died on the way. Doctors found 10 stab wounds on her neck and abdomen.
The boy tried to escape, but was caught by teachers and students and handed over to the police. He was taken to the Esplanade police station and questioned.
“He says he suffered repeated nightmares of being failed by this teacher after she pulled him up for poor performance and frequent absenteeism. It appears she had also written about this in his report card, and his father had also rebuked him. He then decided to kill the teacher”, a police officer said.
