Telangana issue: Kiran Kumar meets Sonia, Rahul
New Delhi: Amid protests in Seemandhra against the UPA decision to create separate Telangana, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Kiran Kumar Reddy on Wednesday held discussions with Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi at the Congress president's residence.
In the 40-minute-long meeting in which Sonia's political secretary Ahmed Patel was also present, Reddy is learnt to have conveyed to the leaders about the difficulties being faced by the party and government in Seemandhra region after the Congress Working Committee decided to bifurcate the state, sources said.
Reddy, who arrived here on Tuesday, left for Hyderabad in the evening, they said. He had yesterday met A.K. Antony Committee and is believed to have demanded that all issues concerned should be addressed if the government goes ahead with the bifurcation.
Reddy reportedly told them that interests of both the Telugu speaking regions should be protected before taking a decision.
The Chief Minister, who hails from Rayalaseema region, is strongly opposed to the division of the state.
