Telangana issue rocks Lok Sabha again
With the return of the suspended Congress and TDP MPs to the Lok Sabha, the Telangana issue once again surfaced in the Lower House, leading to repeated adjournments. Finally the House was adjourned for the day at 3 pm. The Tamil fishermen issue, problem of floods in UP and Bihar and TMC’s campaign to “Save the Rupee” were the other issues that rocked the House.
The only item on the agenda that was taken up was Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s statement on the state of the economy as the agitating MPs were quiet then.
Congress and TDP MPs from Seemandhra repeatedly rushed into the Well of the House with placards in their hands that read, “We want United Andhra Pradesh”, “Justice to Telugu people” and “We want Justice”.
Trinamul Congress members too entered the Well of the House with placards saying “Central govt making the country bankrupt”. TMC MPs also shouted slogans like “Save Rupee” and “Save India”. Rising prices of onions were also protested against.
RJD Chief Lalu Prasad and party leader Raghuvansh Prasad Singh entered into the Well of the House over the issue of floods in UP and Bihar with Lalu shouting that crops have been destroyed in 40 districts.
AIADMK MPs were in the well over the attacks resorted to by the Sri Lankan Navy against the Tamil fishermen.
At 3 pm, Francis Sardinha called on Leader of the Opposition Sushma Swaraj to begin the discussion on the recent devastation in Uttarakhand. But as the Seemandhra MPs were unrelenting in their demand over the issue of Telangana the House was adjourned for the day.
