Telangana: Jagan Mohan Reddy resigns as MP, Vijayamma quits MLA post
Hyderabad: Expressing the party's strong protest over Andhra Pradesh bifurcation, YSR Congress Party chief Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy resigned as MP on Saturday. Joining him, Jagan's mother Y.S. Vijayamma too quit the post of MLA.
However, YSR Congress MP Mekapati Rajamohan Reddy said that they were not against Telangana. "We are not opposing the formation of Telangana but the way in which it was formed," Rajmohan Reddy said.
"Concerns of people on both sides should be taken and justice should be given to both sides," he added.
On Friday, YSR Congress Party has asked Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy to quit his office if the decision to carve out Telangana from Andhra Pradesh was taken without consulting him.
“When YSR (Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy) was in power, the issue of division never came up as he was a strong leader. When the state leadership turned weak, the political scenario changed. If the Chief Minister says that the decision on the division was taken without his knowledge, he should quit his post and resign from the party as his presence has become irrelevant,” Deputy Floor leader Bhuma Shobha Nagi Reddy told reporters in Delhi on Friday.
