Hyderabad: Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy asked for ‘an announcement’ from the Centre to ease the situation in the Seemandhra region, when he met the A.K. Antony committee in New Delhi on Tuesday.
Sources said that the committee took a serious view of reports that the protesters were extorting money from industrialists in the name of the agitation, and wanted the Chief Minister to take action.
The committee also wanted the CM to ease the tensions, including those caused by the strike by Seemandhra employees. To this, Reddy said that emotions were running high in the region, and that some announcement from the Centre could soothe wounded feelings.
During an hour-long meeting at the AICC war room, he restated his opinions on the state bifurcation, including that the party reconsider its decision to divide the state, and mentioned problems over sharing of water, power and other assets.
The committee made it clear that the high command would not go back on its decision but assured the CM that the Centre would look into the problems he had mentioned.

Hyderabad: Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy once again asserted that united Andhra Pradesh would be in the interest of all.
“It will be advantageous if the state remains united, we can achieve anything. Political leaders are accountable to the public. If not, people will expel such leaders. Bifurcation will deprive four districts of Rayalaseema and five districts of coastal Andhra region of irrigation water,” the Chief Minister said while addressing trainees of the Central Civil Services.
During the inauguration of the 88th Foundation of Central Civil Services, the Chief Minister exhorted the bureaucracy to have clarity and consistency of thought.
“Though political leaders form policies and programmes, it is for the officials to implement them though a better delivery mechanism so that the benefits of the programmes reach the people.
There should be complete sychronisation of political leaders and officials for the good of the people. No one is perfect, we commit mistakes. But we have to learn from our mistakes. Perfection comes through experience. You have to learn to respect each other?,” said Mr Reddy.
He remarked that political corruption is not good for society and money cannot influence elections as voters are wise.
