Temple wealth: panel all set to start work
The expert panel deputed by the Supreme Court to assess the wealth found in the vaults of the Sree Padmanabha Swamy temple is all set to commence its work.
The panel, led by National Museums director C.V. Ananda Bose, held a meeting at the Museum auditorium here on Friday to review the steps taken so far. It also held consultations with the observer panel initially deputed by the SC to examine the cellars in the temple.
“We have reviewed the progress of the work done so far and felt that it was satisfactory,” Mr Bose told mediapersons after the meeting.
He added that the panel would be undertaking the task assigned to it by the Supreme Court soon. However, he refused to take more questions. It is learnt that the committee has decided to procure costly instruments including X-Ray machines to assess the wealth in the vaults.
SC has told the panel to divide the wealth into those that have ritualistic value, those that have historical value and those that don’t belong to either category.
The panel meeting comes in the context of the Travancore Royal family approaching the SC requesting that the secret cellar B not be opened since it could create disaster.
