Terror probe: No Saudi response
Investigations into the recent busting of a major terror module in South India has hit a roadblock as intelligence agencies have not been able to get some crucial information from their counterparts in Saudi Arabia. In the last few days, intelligence agencies and the local police have arrested as many as 18 people in Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Maharashtra in connection with a terror plot aimed at targeting key defence and nuclear installations in the country.
The main masterminds of the terror module having links with Lashkar-e-Tayyaba and HuJI were said to be in Saudi Arabia. During interrogation, some of the suspects had even given graphic details of their handlers in Saudi Arabia to security agencies. The Indian agencies immediately shared this information with their Saudi counterparts in attempt to take the investigations forward.
Highly placed intelligence sources revealed that the Saudi agencies have so far not reverted back to them. It seems, sources added, the Saudis are unhappy the way Indian agencies handled the deportation on Abu Jundal and in turn blaming Pakistan for State support in the 26/11 terror attacks.
Earlier, as a fallout of the Jundal fiasco, Saudi Arabia has already delayed the deportation of Mohammed Fasih saying they need to have a fresh look at evidence against him.
Now probe into the key terror module of South India too seems to be becoming a casualty of the Jundal episode.
While sharing information with the Saudi agencies, the Indian security establishment had categorically pointed out that investigations at their end will help lead to further arrests and recovery of arms and ammunitions.
