Hyderabad: The United States Consulate at Hyderabad, in an advisory to American citizens staying in the country, said the terror attack threat at public places and against US government facilities in the city and other metros is “not credible”.

The message from the Consulate said, “In consultation with all relevant parties, the Embassy has determined that the threat is not credible.”

Meanwhile, the city police has been involved in frisking and anti-sabotage operations for the past one week.

Security has been beefed-up at the US Consulate in Begumpet after an “alert” from Intelligence agencies claimed that terrorists may infiltrate through the sea route and carry out attacks on July 21.

Task Force sleuths frisked motorists and passersby near the Consulate on Saturday as well.

The United States Consulate officials said that though the threat is not credible, “there have been no changes to standard security procedures at any of our facilities or for any US government employees”.

“The current worldwide caution advises US citizens to exercise vigilance whenever they travel overseas. Please take this opportunity to read the document and assess your personal security while traveling to or residing in India,” said the message.

Man held with gun, released later

City police nabbed a 40-year-old man near the American Consulate at Begumpet with a firearm on Saturday.

The North Zone Task Force was conducting vehicle checks near the Consulate in the afternoon when  the man, a realtor, was caught by the police.

As he  could not produce an original copy of the weapon’s licence, the Task Force officials handed  him over to the Begumpet police along with the weapon. However, he later produced the licence.

“We verified the licence and released the person and weapon,” the Begumpet police said.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
