Terrorists may strike in festive season
A terror alert has been sounded by Central security agencies warning of possible strikes by Pakistan-based terror outfits, including the Lashkar-e-Tayyaba, during the upcoming festive season and Commonwealth Games in the country. The Union home ministry has asked states like Delhi, Karnataka , Mumbai and Kerala to deploy additional forces in sensitive locations.
The Centre has asked all state governments to take all possible steps to foil attempts by militant groups to disrupt peace during ongoing Ramzan and the upcoming festivals of Raksha Bandhan, Idd-ul Fitr and Onam.

Chhattisgarh: Naxals blow up 8 buildings

Suspected Maoist guerrillas on Thursday went on a rampage in Kuteram village in Chhattisgarh’s restive Dantewada district blowing up eight government buildings including four schools by triggering landmine explosions, police said.
Around 80 armed Left-Wing extremists stormed the village at around 3 am and targeted all the government buildings in the locality. They planted landmines at two schools, one primary health centre, one public health department office, two panchayat offices, one village society office.

Congo: Two held over Indian killing
Kinshasa : Congolese soldiers have arrested two suspects in the killing of three Indian UN peacekeepers in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo, a military spokesman announced on Thursday. Major Vianney Kazarama said the two men had been arrested earlier on Thursday, a day after the attack by around 70 militia members on the Indian contingent’s base.
He said one of the men, named as Tembea Mumbere, had confessed to the killings. “He admitted to everything. He said that they had been sent to track down and kill people with MONUSCO,” acronym for the UN stabilisation mission in the country. —AFP
