Teso wants India to stay away from CHOGM
Chennai: DMK president M. Karunanidhi led TESO on Tuesday resolved to hold state wide demonstration on August 8 demanding the Centre to boycott the Commonwealth meeting slated to be held in Colombo come November, among other demands.
A resolution adopted at Tuesday’s meeting of the organisation, revived by Karunanidhi last year, insisted that India boycott the Commonwealth Head of Governments Meeting (CHOGM) in view of the alleged war crimes against Tamils in Sri Lanka in 2009.
Expressing concern that Lankan president Rajapaksha would become the commonwealth chair if the CHOGM meet takes place in Colombo and it would become difficult to try the chairman of group for war crimes, the resolution said that India’s participation in the meeting in the pretext of a friendly neighbour would mean acknowledgement of the war crimes.
TESO insisted that India should ensure there is no dilution of 13 Amendment on devolution by the island nation.
