Thackerays face hate-speech case

A case was filed against Shiv Sena patriarch Bal Thackeray, party executive president Uddhav Thackeray and Maharashtra Navanir-man Sena chief Raj Thackeray for making inflammatory speeches against migrants from Bihar and its people.
Adam Ali, a journalist of Urdu daily Quami Tanjeem filed the case on Thursday in the court of Chief Judicial Magistrate Sanjay Kumar Sinha charging the Thackerays with making hate speeches against Biharis and other north Indian people that may disrupt peace and communal harmony and fuel regional sentiments in the country.
He also said in his case that Raj Thack-eray’s statements desc-ribing Bihari migrants as infiltrators and demanding issuance of permit to them for visit to Mumbai and Mah-arashtra amounted to a “brazen violation” of provisions of the Const-itution that allows citizens to move freely and settle down in any part of the country.
Similar petitions have been filed against the Thackerays in Muzaffarpur, Bhaga-lpur, Nalanda and West Champaran courts besides, in other districts of Bihar over the past few days.
The MNS chief had described the Bihari migrants as infiltrators and threatened to drive them out of Mumbai and Maharashtra.

Diggy gone mad: uddhav
Age correspondent
mumbai, Sept. 6

Congress leader Digvijay Singh’s claim about the origins of the Thackeray family being from Bihar has infuriated Shiv Sena executive president Uddhav Thackeray. Quoting from a book compiled by Uddhav’s grandfather Prab-odhankar Thackeray, Mr Singh has claimed that the Thackeray family originates from Magadh in Bihar.
However, the Sena leader has declared Mr Singh “mad” for making such claims. Reacting to Mr Singh’s claims, Uddhav said, “That man has gone mad.”

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
