Thackerays upset with Bigg Boss, seek apology
The Thackeray cousins — MNS chief Raj and Sena executive chief Uddhav — are both upset with television show Bigg Boss-5 for “insulting the Marathi manoos”. On Friday’s episode of the show, a contestant entrusted with housekeeping duties was given a Maharashtrian name which the other contestants then allegedly ridiculed. While Uddhav called it perverse, Raj has demanded an apology and threatened an “MNS style” action. In the episode, contestant Amar Upadhyay was deputed as a “personal servant” for Shakti Kapoor and Siddharth Bhardwaj after he failed to successfully finish a task. Mr Bhardwaj named Mr Upadhaya “P.K. Lele”. For this, Raj has demanded an immediate apology.

NSA: non-state actors doing state functions

National security adviser (NSA) Shivshankar Menon did not name the country but the reference clearly was to Pakistan when he said that “non-state actors perform state functions” at a conference here on Saturday. With the Pakistani establishment often accused of backing terror groups in their country, the NSA’s remarks were not surprising.

10 killed in darjeeling bridge collapse

At least 10 persons were killed while dozens were injured when a wooden bridge over a small river collpased near Darjeeling Hill town in Darjeeling on Saturday evening. The death toll is feared to rise.
The accident took place during a programme organised by the Gorkha Janamukti Morcha (GJM).
Condoling the deaths, chief minister Mamata Banerjee confirmed that at least 10 people were killed and 50 persons were hurt.
