Those praising Modi should introspect: Cong
Hinting at social activist Anna Hazare, Congress on Friday said those who praise Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi should introspect their comments in the light of latest affidavit by an IPS officer in the Supreme Court implicating the Saffron leader in the 2002 communal riots in the state.
Though, All India Congress Committee spokesperson Manish Tewari did not name Mr Hazare, he said, “This is a known fact that it was not riot that had happened in Gujarat but a state-sponsored terrorism. We appeal to all those who praise Mr Modi to take a look at the PIL filed in the Supreme Court and the plight of those killed in the carnage.”
Refusing to buy the argument that he was referring to Mr Hazare, who had recently praised Modi for his rural development works in the state, Mr Tewari said, “I am not pointing at any specific person but appealing to all those industrialists, social workers and actors, who have praised Mr Modi in the last nine years, to look at this PIL, the report of Nanavati Commission (which went into 2002 Gujarat riots) and similar PILs filed in the Supreme Court, and introspect.”
Asked whether Congress would seek resignation of Mr Modi on the issue, Mr Tewari, while taking a dig at Sangh Parivar, said, “We have no expectations of morality from RSS and Bharatiya Janata Party who are yet to seek even an apology from the people for the riots.”
