Three defence chiefs face Parliamentary Standing Committee on defence readiness
The Parliamentary Standing Committee on Defence has asks the three services chiefs to appear before it on April 20 to answer questions on defence preparedness.
The meet with the three 'bosses' comes after a letter from the Army Chief alerted the Prime Minister of a severe lack in readiness and arms capability.
In his March 12 letter to the PM, Gen. Singh noted the critical shortfall of ammunition for battle tanks, obsolete air defence weaponry and crippling deficiencies of 'crew-served weapons' in the infantry.
He said almost the entire air-defence weaponry was obsolete, with decades-old Soviet-origin air defence guns still used. There had been no fresh artillery acquisitions for over two decades.
