Three girls die after eating sweets in New Delhi
Three girls died and another was critical after having some sweets in north-east Delhi with police on Tuesday suspecting it to be a case of food poisoning.
The incident came to light in Gokulpuri last evening when four girls – Isha (6), Preeti (3), Shanti (6) and Rashmi (8) – were brought to Guru Teg Bahadur Hospital. The deceased have been identified as Rashmi, Preeti and Shanti. Isha is undergoing treatment and is in serious condition.
Police said the girls were vomiting blood. "The cause is not known. We could not record the statement of the victims. We suspect that they died of food poisoning," a senior police official said.
A constable had seen the girls playing in the area and came towards flyover. He saw them eating sweets, the official said. A case of death due to negligence has been registered.
Remaining parts of the sweets were collected and sent the sweet sample to Forensic Science Laboratory for further analysis.
