Three girls killed in transformer blast Meerut

Three girl students were killed after an electric transformer exploded in Soop village in neighbouring Baghpat. "The transformer located near a bus stop exploded yesterday and the hot oil from it sprayed on five school students standing close to it," Bhaghpat District Officer Ranjan Kumar said.

Ruby (16), Lovey (8) and Shivani (14) died as a result of it while two more students Priya (14) and Kajal (12) are being treated at a local hospital. Kumar said "the district administration has lodged a case with the police against three officials of the electricity department, including an Executive Engineer and a Junior Engineer. The district administration has also announced Rs one lakh ex-gratia for kin of the victims," Kumar said.
