Three injured in Maoist blast in Orissa

Three officials of the state agriculture department sustained injuries, one of them critically, after Maoists triggered a landmine blast in Orissa's Koraput district Tuesday, the police said.

The rebels triggered the blast near Odiapentha village, some 500 km from here, when the officials were on their way to the block headquarters of Narayan Patna in their government jeep. "The vehicle was partially damaged,"

Deputy inspector general of police (southwest) Soumendra Priyadarshi told IANS, adding that the driver of the vehicle was injured critically. The blast occurred two days after the killing of at least nine Maoists by security forces and police during a gun fight in the neighbouring Rayagada district.
