Tiger fights cow, gets hurt

Tension prevailed in Valparai and surrounding areas on Friday after a 15-year-old tiger sneaked into a cowshed in the thickly populated Periyar Nagar in Urilikal estate.

Forest officials said the aged tiger was injured in the right thigh following a fight with a cow and was unable to walk.

R. Gnanasekaran of Periya Kadai found the tiger hiding in the bushes near his cowshed. The tiger was unable to move form that place. Gnanasekaran alerted the Valparai forest officials who reached the spot.

The forest officials tried in vain to send the tiger back to the forest. Later, a team from the Mudumalai Tiger Reserve, including a forest veterinary doctor, reached the spot and tranquilised the animal. “We learnt that the tiger is not able to move from the place,” said Manampally range officer Arokiaraj Xavier.
