While DMK MP Kanimozhi on Friday moved a Delhi court for bail against arrest in the 2G case, the officials of the Delhi’s Tihar Jail have started their preparations for her arrival.

Sources have pointed out that Ms Kanimozhi might be shifted to Rohini Jail’s women wing soon after her arrival at Tihar.

Talking to this newspaper, a Tihar Jail official said, “Since the CBI had said that they do not require a further remand of Kanimozhi, it is clear that soon after Kanimozhi is declared arrested she will be taken into judicial custody.”

The official further added, “We have beefed up security for Kanimozhi’s stay in Tihar.”

A senior CBI official earlier on Friday said, “I do not think we require her custody for further probe. She has already been questioned by our officials on a couple of occasions before completing the chargesheet. It is up to the court to decide on her fate.”

While senior Tihar officials refused to comment on why Ms Kanimozhi is likely to be shifted to the Rohini Jail, sources have pointed out that it is due to the security reasons that the officials will consider shifting her to Rohini Jail.

However, the Tihar Jail officials on Friday maintained, “All the wings of the Tihar Jail have their security in place.”

Ms Kanimozhi is scheduled to appear before a Delhi court on Saturday where a decision will be taken on her arrest and a possible judicial custody.

The DMK leader has been charged under Sections 7 and 11 of the Prevention of Corruption Act for entering into a criminal conspiracy with former telecom minister A. Raja and accepting illegal gratification through Kalaignar TV. She holds 20 per cent stakes in the channel.

Ms Kanimozhi, who arrived in Delhi on Thursday for the hearing, said she will come out clean and does not expect leniency on grounds of being a woman.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.
