Tirath calls for probe by CBI
The death of a 14-year-old girl in a police station in Lakhmirpur district and the subsequent controversy surrounding the death has given a fresh impetus to political parties which have attempted to gain political mileage out of it.
Union women and child development minister Krishna Tirath on Wednesday demanded a CBI probe into the incident as conflicting police versions are giving rise to suspicions. She said, “It is imperative that truth is brought out in this case. Justice cannot be ensured without a CBI investigation. The probe should be fair and without fear and favour”.
Ms Tirath demand for a CBI probe came on a day when Uttar Pardesh chief minister Mayawati too said that she was not averse to the case being handed over to the CBI, if the victim’s family wanted it.
Ms Tirath buttressed her arguments with the different versions on the reason for the death of the girl who was found hanging at a police station in the district.
