Tiwari to undergo DNA test
The Delhi high court on Thursday ordered veteran Congress leader Narayan Dutt Tiwari, 85, to undergo a DNA test to ascertain the claim by a Delhi-based lawyer, Mr Rohit Shekhar, that he is his biological son.
Justice S. Ravindra Bhatt, while directing the Congress leader to appear before the joint registrar of the Delhi high court on February 8, said, “It cannot disregard the right of a child to know about his or her biological father.” The court has not fixed any date for Mr Tiwari to undergo the DNA test.
[Agency reports from Dehra Dun said Mr Tiwari would abide by the court order. “The court’s decisions are supreme. Tiwariji will abide by the high court’s decision,” said Mr Sanjay Joshi, a spokesman for Mr Tiwari.]
“Unless the court feels in certain circumstances that it is against the interests of the child to know of its paternity, the court is justified in ascertaining the paternity of the child through reliable scientific tests...,” the court said.
