TMC refuses to bail out UPA
Amidst the simmering tension in the relations between the UPA and the Samajwadi Party, the Trinamul Congress has ruled out the possibility of bailing out the government at the Centre in the event of crisis. The party has clarified that its support to the government on the Sri Lankan issue was in line with its policy on foreign affairs and that should not be interpreted as softening of stand with respect to the UPA government.
While maintaining that the country is headed for an early poll, senior TMC leader and former Union minister Sisir Adhikari said that “there is no looking back for the Trinamul over its withdrawal of the support to the UPA government”. “Our party took a well thought over decision to withdraw the support when the government announced the decision to hike the diesel price and FDI in multi-brand retail. We will not become party to the UPA government again,” added Mr Adhikari.
The senior Trinamul Congress leader clarified that the party’s support to the government on the Sri Lankan issue was in line with the party’s manifesto to support the country’s foreign policy and government stand on international matters. We do not indulge in politics over international issues,” said the senior Trinamul Congress leader, who added that those who are speculating that the Trinamul Congress will return to the UPA fold are “living in fool’s paradise”.
