TMC workers vandalise police station, assault babu
Trinamul Congress supporters vandalised the Bongaon police station in North 24 Parganas, and in a separate incident, attacked a gram panchayat official in Murshidabad on Friday.
Two weeks ago, TMC leaders had lodged a complaint against CPI(M) gram pradhan of Chhaigharia gram panchayat Paritosh Adhikari accusing him of committing irregularities in implementation of 100 days work in the villages.
Alleging that the police had failed to take action against Mr Adhikari, they went to the police station to make a deputation. The officer-in-charge was not present. This infuriated them and they went on a rampage, destroying furniture.
“A mob of over 50 people, who had gone to give a deputation against a panchayat member alleged to be corrupt, ransacked the Bongaon police station after they did not find any senior police officer,” superintendent of police Sugata Sen said.
Although the vandals holding party flags were led by local TMC leader Santosh Das, party MP Mukul Roy said that they did not belong to the ruling party.
In another instance of ruling party supporters going berserk and taking law into their own hands, TMC supporters choppped off the ear of a gram panchayat official in Murshidabad for not attending office on the day of trade union strike defying CM Mamata Baner-jee’s diktat, the workers allegedly thrashed him so badly that one of his eyes was damaged.
