TN man sets girl, family members ablaze for rejecting marriage
Angry at his marriage proposal being rejected, a 26-year-old man set an 18-year-old girl along with her mother and brother on fire, before setting himself ablaze near here, police said on Friday.
The man died on the spot, while the girl with 90 per cent burns succumbed in a hospital today, police said. The other two are undergoing treatment, they said.
The man, an auto-mechanic, had known the family for the last two years. He had got married three months ago but left his wife as he wanted to marry the 18-year-old college girl, police said.
On January 26, he arrived at the girl's house and expressed his desire to marry her. When she refused, he poured kerosene on her and her family members as well as himself and lit a match, police said.
The girl's father, a brick kiln worker, was not at home at that time, they said.
