TN panel will probe new House complex
The state government on Wednesday appointed a commission of inquiry, headed by S. Thangaraj, retired judge of Madras high court, to probe into the alleged irregularities in the construction of new Secretariat complex during the previous DMK regime. In the notification published in the extraordinary issue of Tamil Nadu gazette, chief secretary Debendranath Sarangi said the commission would complete its inquiry and submit its report to the government in three months.
Detaining the terms of reference of the commission, the government said, “To inquire into the causes and circumstances leading to the alleged irregularities like excess expenditure, irregularities causing loss to the exchequer, whether all statutory approvals and clearances were obtained, inordinate delay and deficiency in standards of construction.” The panel will also inquire whether there was any lapse or abuse of position on the part of the government officials.
