The treasure unearthed from Sri Padmanabha Swamy temple at Thiruvananthapuram, in Kerala, has triggered speculation that Sri Adikesavaperumal temple of Thiruvattar in Kanyakumari district, which was under the rule of Travancore kings, has its share in the treasure.

According to advocate Radhakrishnan, who raked up the issue of share for the Thiruvattar Adikesavaperumal temple, the kings would not have completely forsaken their prime deity and given the treasure to the temple that they built later.

Thiruvattar Adikesavaperumal was the prime deity of the Travancore maharajas before they shifted their capital from Padmanabhapuram in Kanyakumari district to Thiruvananthapuram.

“Had the kings wanted to give more importance to Padmanabhaswamy temple, they would have created a much longer idol of Padmanabhaswamy reclining on the snake couch, which is 18 ft long, against the 22 ft long idol of Adikesavaperumal,” said Mr Radhakrishnan.

Mr Radhakrishnan argues, “As the Thiruvattar temple has rivers on three sides, constructing underground chambers at Adikesavaperumal temple would have been impossible. So, the jewels of Adikesavaperumal, believed to be the elder brother of Lord Padmanabhaswamy, would have been saved at the Thiruvananthapuram temple vaults against the invading Dutch and Arcot of Nawab."

However, Sri Adikesavaperumal seva trust chairman C. Anantha Krishnan disagrees with these claims.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
