TN woman travel agent ‘raped’, killed by driver

A 32-year-old woman who was running a travel agency was allegedly murdered by one of her drivers after he sexually assaulted her at home in suburban Thillai Ganga Nagar in Adambakkam on Thursday night. The police arrested her driver Gouse Basha, 28, from his girlfriend’s house in Virugambakkam on Friday.
The deceased, Usha Rani, was living alone and running her business after she separating from her husband and child two years ago. According to sources, Usha Rani and her killer may have been in an illicit relationship for some time but because Gouse Basha was already married, she had asked him to divorce his wife so he could come to live with her. But he did not consent to divorcing his wife.
“After a fight last week, he stopped going to work. On Thursday, she threatened him saying if he did not marry her, she would lodge a rape complaint against him. This infuriated Basha who strangulated her to death,” the police said.
After killing her, he may have left the house at around 4 pm. The neighbours noticed that although the front door was open there was no light on in the house and when they rang the bell there was no answer. They then alerted a relative of the woman who arrived and entered the house. He saw the near naked woman dead. On initial enquiry, Adambakkam police found out that Gouse Basha had been the last visitor to the house and they tracked him at the home of another woman friend of his.
