TNCC chief suspects foul play in wife’s rejection
Tamil Nadu Congress president K. V. Thangkabalu suspected foul play in the rejection of his wife Jayanthi’s nomination for the Mylapore Assembly segment on Monday. It is learnt from Election commission (EC) officials that Ms Jayanthi Thangkabalu’s nomination was rejected since two vital documents were not produced and she had also failed undersign two documents, apparently making him the party candidate for Mylapore.
However, the state Congress chief on Monday claimed that they have submitted all four documents and two “went missing.”
Later in the evening, his son Karthik complained to chief electoral officer Mr Praveen Kumar, who, in turn, ordered an enquiry into the issue of scrutiny and rejection of Ms Jayanthi Thangkabalu’s nomination. Two days after his wife filed her nominations, Mr Thangkabalu sneaked into the returning officer’s chamber on Saturday to file nomination.
Congressmen told Deccan Chronicle that the notary had attested a couple of documents even without Ms Jayanthi Thangkabalu undersigning the same. Meanwhile, a Congress rebel candidate in Myalpore, Ms Sivagami submitted a complaint with the returning officer, accusing Mrs Thangkabalu of “deliberately not disclosed the fact that she is the managing director of Mega TV”.
