Tollywood remembers Rituparno Ghosh
It was a teary afternoon on Tuesday when the members of the Tollywood industry gathered to remember National Award-winning director Rituparno Ghosh at Nazrul Manch.
The occasion titled as Rituparno Abong, veterans including Soumitra Chatterjee, Madhabi Mukherjee, Dipankar De, Aparna Sen, Anjan Dutt along with actors like Prosenjit Chatterjee, Mamata Shankar, Sabyashachi Chakraborty, June Maliah, Arpita Chatterjee, poet Joy Goswami, eminent novelists Suchitra Bhattacharya, Shirshendu Mukhopadhyay directors Gautam Ghosh, Kaushik Ganguly and others were present during the occasion.
Chief minister Mamata Banerjee too attended the ceremony along with her Cabinet colleagues state finance minister Amit Mitra, Arup Biswas and mayor Sovan Chatterjee. Ghosh breathed his last on May 30.
As a part of the tribute to this director who later won hearts by acting also, Ms Banerjee wrote a book on Ghosh named Rituraj.
Interestingly, her book was unveiled by Ghosh’s long-time man-Fridays, Bishu and Gobindo as part of the tribute to the versatile director.
Veteran actor Soumitra Chatterjee remembered Ghosh as versatile director and a man with vision and a person with immense love for the art. Actress Madhabi Mukherjee recollected her association with Ghosh and his family. Ms Sen said Ghosh’s persona was so unique and intriguing that it stayed with one for a long time.
Apart from remembering Ghosh’s contribution to cinema and literature, a musical representation was also staged by musician Debajyoti Mishra.
