The outlawed NDFB is trying to re-establish its base in Bhutan with the help of Bhupali Maoist, an insurgent group of Nepali migrants in Bhutan.
Informing that the nexus was posing a serious threat to the security and safety of the people living in the Gelegphu border gate area, security sources said that Bhutan has also expressed its worry over the rising cross-border crime inside its territory, bordering Kokrajhar and Chirang districts of Assam.
The last incident of kidnapping took place on July 21 when a Class 9 student from the Bhutanese border town of Sarpang was abducted. Though, he was released after paying the extortion to the NDFB rebels.
