Top court issues notice to Modi

The Supreme Court on Thursday issued notice to Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi and his government on a petition by a senior IAS officer of the state, alleging that at least five “false” cases had been slapped on him due to the “vendetta” for he being the brother of a senior IPS officer who allegedly had “exposed” CM’s role in the post-Godhra riots.

While issuing the notice, a bench of Justices Aftab Alam and R.M. Lodha, recorded a statement of IAS officer Pradeep Sharma’s counsel Colin Gonsalves that he was dropping certain very serious personal allegations against Mr Modi contained from page 15 to 25 of the writ petition.
Mr Sharma has sought CBI investigation into the whole affair and transfer of the cases registered against him by the Gujarat police outside the state. His counsel gave the undertaking to the court after Mr Modi’s lawyer M.N. Krishnamani said the allegations levelled in the objectionable pages were not only “frivolous” but an attempt of “character assassination”.
