Top court sets up 2nd forest bench
New Delhi, July 16: The Chief Justice, S H Kapadia, on Saturday announced a drastic overhaul of the decade-old procedure to deal with forest and environment cases.
Under the new plan, the Chief Justice pronounced creation of another forest bench to en-sure that the projects caught in legal wrangles due to green issues are cleared quickly as thousands of crores of rupees are blocked due to the long litigations.
The Chief Justice said of the two forest benches, the first would be headed by him and the another one by Justice B. Sudershan Reddy.
The Chief Justice said both the forest benches would sit on Monday and Friday.
The ‘Noida Park’ case against the Mayawati government in Uttar Pradesh would be taken first from July 19 and till it is disposed of, no other case would be heard.
The CJI made it clear that once a case is listed for hearing, it would not be adjourned on one pretext or the other till finally disposed of.
