Top govt officials may be booked over assets
The CBI, which has registered 14 cases so far while probing alleged corruption in the Commonwealth Games (CWG), is likely to book certain government officials for allegedly possessing assets disproportionate to their known sources of income.
According to sources, the disproportionate assets (DA) case is likely to be registered against certain government officials who have been booked by the CBI in connection with alleged irregularities committed in some CWG projects.
Sources further said, “The agency officials are scrutiny incriminating documents recovered from the residences of certain government officials. Possibility of registering DA case against them can not be ruled out.”
“The agency is also probing visit of OC members to Beijing before the Games. The agency officials have collected all relevant documents — including an amount of `3.24 crore shown as advance for Beijing Olympic observers programme-in this regard”, sources said. Renovation of Indian Olympic Association (IOA) building at the cost of `4.8 crore is also being probed by the CBI. “The IOA members paid rent and maintenance charges for the IOA building till August 2008. Initial probe by the agency has revealed that the building was not used after May, 2008. This is also being further investigated by the CBI,” sources said.
