Top Kalmadi aide at CWG arrested by CBI in Pune

Tainted Congress MP and former Commonwealth Games organising committee chief Suresh Kalmadi’s personal aide Shekhar Mukund Deorukhkar was arrested by the CBI from his Pune residence on Friday morning on charges of criminal conspiracy.

The CBI said Mr Deorukhkar, a director at the CWG organising committee, had doled out contracts to event management companies at exorbitant rates, offering them huge benefits which caused the government a big loss.
This is one of the first Pune arrests in connection with the CWG scam.
Mr Deorukhkar, known to be very close to Mr Kalmadi, was produced in the CBI court of special judge S.N. Sardesai in Pune on Friday afternoon.
The CBI secured a three-day transit remand and will now take Mr Deorukhkar to New Delhi, and produce him before the Patiala House courts by Monday.
