Torso rides on Grand Trunk Express to Chennai
The headless body of a man, aged about 40, was found stuffed in a box on Grand Trunk Express which arrived at Chennai Central railway station at 7am on Saturday from New Delhi.
The body was found by the cleaning staff in a trunk similar to the ones used by Army men. It was lying unclaimed inside an unreserved compartment. The identity of the man is unknown.
The people who first saw it immediately informed the police, who rushed to the platform and opened the box. The body was folded and stuffed inside the trunk wrapped in a polythene cover. The box had a ‘warning’ written in Hindi on it.
Senior railway police officers, who had seen the male body, said it had an injury on the shoulder, which may have been caused while the man was beheaded.
The police are now trying to contact their counterparts in Delhi, from where the train began its journey, to find out if the box was sent from there or some other station.
The police immediately sent the body to the government hospital morgue. The man had been wearing half-trouser and vest and was of fair complexion.
“We have asked them to check the video footage at Delhi railway station. It is possible that the images of the assailants, who brought the box and placed it in the compartment, might have been recorded on the CCTV camera there. We have informed them about the recovery of the torso of a man. We will send the photographs of the torso to the Delhi police,” the railway police said.
